Ray: A Life Underwater

There’s a sign in a bar in Cozumel, Mexico that reads, “Remember when sex was safe and diving was dangerous?” There’s a man in Plymouth, England named Ray Ives who surely remembers. Ray is a former professional salvage diver who, at the age of 75, still plies the depths in search of the treasures that to one man might be junk. Not only does Ray still dive but he does it using old school equipment and has an impressive collection of brass diving helmets to go along with the bottles, coins and swords he’s brought up from the sea. The short documentary, Ray: A Life Underwater, is a beautiful portrait of a man who refuses to quit doing what he loves and a celebration not only of treasures found but of the hunt for it.
